The Outer Box Indicator

Six classes on the thinkorswim study: installing it, the five ladder lines and labels, how the targets are found, how the larger boxes grade them, clusters, and reading a live chart from top to bottom.

The Outer Box Indicator puts the book’s ladder on your thinkorswim chart and goes one step further: it finds the next level up and down, and grades each one by how much of the larger market is behind the move. This course teaches you to install it, read every line and label, and know exactly why it shows what it shows.

Every class works the same way:

  1. Read the class. The chart images are drawn from the study’s own arithmetic on EUR/USD on October 20 and 21, 2026, with a few real screenshots from the same day.
  2. Open your own chart with the study and find each element the class describes.
  3. Tick I’ve read the class, then check yourself with the quiz. You need 70% to pass, you can retake it as often as you like, and your best score counts.
Class You will learn to
1 Installing and Setting Up Install or update the study and load enough chart history
2 The Ladder and the Labels Name every line and label on the chart
3 How the Targets Are Found Work out the next level up and down yourself
4 How the Targets Are Graded Count the six votes and read the chain label
5 Clusters Explain why a target is flagged as a cluster
6 Reading the Chart Read a live chart top to bottom, and fix what looks wrong

This course follows version 5.2.4 of the study. The study’s full reference, kept up to date with each release, is the Outer Box Indicator documentation. It helps to have finished Outer Box Foundations first.

The study and this course describe a method of reading charts. Nothing in them is a signal to buy or sell. Trading carries a high risk of loss.
