Trading Psychology

Four classes on the trader behind the chart: why good rules get broken, routines and checklists that protect them, keeping a journal that teaches you something, and getting through losing streaks.

Two traders can follow the same method on the same charts and get very different results, because one follows the rules on bad days and the other does not. This course is about that difference: the habits that keep a sound method from being undone by the person using it.

Each class works the same way:

  1. Read the class and do the short exercise at the end.
  2. Tick I’ve read the class.
  3. Check yourself with the short quiz. You need 70% to pass, you can retake it as often as you like, and your best score counts.

It pairs well with Risk and Money Management, which sets the rules this course helps you keep.

This course is about trading habits. It is not financial, medical or psychological advice. If trading is causing you real distress, step away from it and talk to someone you trust.

This course is free to read. Sign in to tick off each class, take the quizzes and earn the certificate.

Units

  1. 1
    Why Good Rules Get Broken
Loss aversion, cutting winners and holding losers, fear of missing out, revenge trading and overtrading, and the one defence that works against all of them.
  2. 2
    Routines and the Pre-Trade Checklist
A daily routine built on box closes, a pre-trade checklist that every trade must pass, and why fewer, planned sessions beat watching the screen all day.
  3. 3
Keeping a Journal That Teaches You Something
What to write before and after every trade, how to grade the decision instead of the result, and a weekly review that finds the one thing to fix.
  4. 4
    Losing Streaks and Drawdowns
How often long losing streaks happen to a sound method, how to tell bad luck from a broken method, and the rules that get you through a drawdown with the account and your judgment intact.
